A few days ago I decided to try out one of the new stand up paddleboards we just recieved from Tahoe SUP. I wanted to do this but i also had some friend in town for the weekend. They had never paddled before but i thought they could handle it if I got them out on the water, so I picked up some boards and headed to the sound behind my house. First I put my friend out on a Surftech Randy French SUP, one of the more stable models. Then I went in on the Tahoe. I paddled around a bit and I found the board to be very stable. With that in mind I decided to let my buddy paddle the Tahoe so that his girlfriend could use the Randy French. I in turn paddled a Surtech Laird 12'1", probably my favorite board to date. So as the skies faded we paddled out into the evening. It was probably about twenty minutes after sunset and the sky was putting on a show. The water was absolutely calm and the glassy conditions made for an easy paddled. For about the next half hour we paddled out into the sound. I had to laugh as I watched my friend paddling ahead with the sunset silhouetting his shape. His girlfriend took to paddling very easily and we all made it back to shore without getting wet. I had a great time going out with them. Watching the water rippling off their paddles in the afterglow of a beautiful sunset is a memory I will not soon loose. After paddling we sat out for a while watching the stars and tracking satellites as they passed overhead. It truly was an evening to remember. Thanks Tahoe SUP....

Too Windy? Try Our River Tours!

Our Safari River and Alligator River tours are great when there's too much wind. There are tall trees surrounding these rivers and canals, which help block the wind. When it's too windy, it makes it difficult to paddle, and the water becomes choppy.

In contrast, when there's very light wind, it's great for tours like Pea Island, Graveyard of the Atlantic, Roanoke Island, Kitty Hawk Bay, and Corolla. There's nothing like glassy water on a sunset tour..

Looking to try something new? How about Stand Up Paddleboarding? It's a LOT different than Kayaking, and attracts a completely different audience. It feels like you're standing on water, and it gives you a whole new perspective!

Kayaking Kicks Off.

I am proud to announce that we conducted our first kayak tour of the new year yesterday (2-15-10). The weather was just beautiful and we were able to paddle out of our Roanoke Island location. Hopefully, this is a sign of improving conditions and good things to come. It has been a rough winter for the east coast as it has been all across the nation. The Outer Banks has had its share of storms and windy days but spring is just around the corner and 50 degree days will become more frequent. We look forward to paddling more and more as the weather improves.

Its going to be a little cold this weekend, so be sure and bundle up when you are on the water. If you have never tried the kayaking around Kitty Hawk Bay, we highly recommend it. It makes for great sunsets and an easy paddle in the right conditions. Need a last minute gift for Valentine's? Try one of our kayak tours. If you go on either the 13th or 14th you can take that special someone for free!
